Bra Day 2013
On October 16, AirXpanders – a company developing a needle-free, patient-controlled tissue expansion device for women undergoing breast reconstruction following mastectomy – hosted a Bra Day event at the Hotel Valencia in San Jose, California. The event was both educational and social, celebrating breast cancer survivors and women who have undergone a mastectomy and reconstruction.
An educational program was designed to educate those impacted by breast cancer about new options for breast reconstruction. Scott Dodson, President and CEO of AirXpanders, gave opening remarks, and local plastic surgeon, Dr. Kamakshi Zeidler, provided an overview of current expansion and reconstruction options available to patients commercially and as part of clinical trials. Finally, Marcy Burns, one of Dr. Zeidler’s patients who underwent a double mastectomy and reconstruction, shared her story with attendees. Marcy was a part of AirXpanders’ XPAND trial in the U.S., and completed her expansion with AeroForm™, an investigational, injection-free, patient-controlled tissue expansion system that uses carbon dioxide rather than saline to help women compete expansion.
The event was sponsored in part by Sientra.
“When my plastic surgeon offered the chance to be part of an FDA clinical study using the AeroForm expanders, I immediately agreed. Not only would I be in control of the situation with remotes, but the degree of weekly expansion would be much increased, speeding up the process and eliminating the weekly saline injections.”

“Cancer can and is a devastating diagnosis, but hidden and sometimes not so hidden are gifts… Clearly the XPANDER and the technology has been an unforgettable gift, which I hope will be available to all women facing reconstruction.”
“The patient ultimately controls the expansion process under the direction of her doctor…the patient has an actual hand in the healing process.”
